It was announced back in January of this year that Lucasfilm would be rebranding their company back to the former Lucasfilm Games, they would be working with a number of other studios to create games, prompting the end of EA’s exclusivity deal over Star Wars video games.
Lucasfilm Games took to Twitter to share the announcement with fans, the post read “We’re thrilled to announce we are working with @Ubisoft and @UbiMassive to develop a brand-new, story-driven, open-world Star Wars adventure! Learn more about the future of @LucasfilmGames in the Star Wars galaxy and beyond: http://strw.rs/6007HXnhU“
This will come to the delight of fans who have been calling for a title like this for quite some time, after all Ubisoft has bags of experience in the creation of open world titles. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a recent earnings call “The project will be headed by our Massive studio, who will make the most of their cutting-edge technology, including the Snowdrop engine, to deliver a ground-breaking Star Wars adventure”.
This means we could be seeing some impressing graphics in the upcoming title, even more so on next-gen consoles, but even for a company of their size and with all of their past experience under their belt, creating an open world title in the Star Wars universe will still be a tough job.
But it does leave a lot of doors open for possibilities, there is no knowing just yet what the title will actually entail, could we see players be able to create their own characters?
It also begs the question if fans will be able to travel to different galaxies or planets, only time will tell with this one, but we are sure there is bound to be more details revealed on the project as it gets closer to completion.
Either way it looks like it is going to be an impressive title and we can’t wait to get a slice of the action,.
